Working with Individuals in Psychotherapy

Adult specializations.

Though client issues vary greatly, their are some patterns I often see in my practice. Men bring issues involving, identity, sexuality, relationships, depression, and vocation.  I help men become both tender and strong in their lives and relationships. I am a Vietnam veteran and have led groups for veterans struggling with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Women often seek help with role and identity redefinition as they mature through mid-life.  I have worked extensively with these issues which often involve assertiveness and “reinvention” of one’s self and one’s place in the world to become more independent, autonomous, authentic, and successful. I help women become both strong and tender in their lives and relationships.

Working with adolescents

This is a stressful world for adolescents as well as adults.  Typical issues that teens bring to my practice are depression, motivation, relationship problems, and social predicaments.  I also interface with schools around academic problems especially for kids with ADD and other neuropsych issues.  I have an enormous degree of respect for kids willing to come and share their lives with me, a relative stranger, in an attempt to make things better.  I enjoy working with this population.

Child counseling, neuropsychological issues.

I attempt to put myself into the child’s world and see things through his or her eyes.  I attempt to forget diagnostic doom-saying and relate to the “genius,” of the child, this being the child or teen's, “guiding spirit” --the deepest aspirations and talents.  I am well versed in neuropsychological issues to include ADD, Bipolar Disorder, Asperger's syndrome, High-functioning autism, and Tourette’s syndrome and have presented internationally on these topics.
